Impact Testing Machine

Frustrated at the high cost of Tapping Machines, we thought we could do better.

So we set out to develop our own tapping machine. Initially, we stuck with the standard configuration of tapping machines available elsewhere. Then we thought, "wait a second, we do lots of impact sound insulation testing. We've got a pretty good idea of what's needed".

We have often had problems with the availability of power supplies of the correct voltage when we have visited a development. Sometimes, we have had problems simply finding any power supply.

So it was important to provide battery operation in our tapping machine, as standard.

But you can run it from a mains adapter too.

Believe it or not, we have also come across impact testing machines that were running at the wrong speed when we switched them on. (Did you check the speed of the camshaft last time you used one?)

If the tapping machine has an automatic speed controller, does that mean that it is running at the correct speed? It should be, shouldn't it? We have found that it isn't always so.

So we put an optical feedback device and a state LED on our speed controller, as standard, so that you can be sure that the operating speed conforms with the requirements.

You do not have to hope that the speed is correct. You can make sure of it! Simple! If you are using the machine on battery, because no mains outlet is available, then at some point the battery voltage will drop too low. At that point, the State LED will flash red to tell you that the required speed cannot be maintained. If you are on the floor below at the time? - no problem: the machine will start to run on a stepped mode: 2 seconds on, 2 seconds off etc to 'speak to you'.

We also made sure that our tapping machine complied with all of the other requirements of the Standard (BS EN ISO 140-7 & 8, just so that there's no doubt).

(And yes, that includes checking the terminal velocity of the drop hammers!)
